4 Foods for Healthy Skin

Nutrition plays a significant role in boosting our health and wellbeing. Eating the right foods can strengthen gut health, immunity, improve digestive health and keep your organs strong and healthy.

One organ that is highly impacted by what you eat is your skin.

Indeed, we now know that nutrition can directly affect the health and aging of your skin.

One way nutrition affects the skin is through carotenoids. Carotenoids are pigments found in plants and algae, and also contribute to the bright yellow, red and orange colors found in fruits and vegetables. But there are others compounds as well that can help improve skin health.

With that being said, here are 4 foods which offer nutritional benefits to improve skin health:

  1. Broccoli 🥦

Broccoli includes vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc, all of which can improve skin health. It also contains carotenoid, helping protect the skin from oxidative damage which can lead to dry and wrinkled skin.

  1. Tomato 🍅

Also rich in carotenoids, tomatoes are a great food option to improve skin health. Tomatoes include beta carotene, lutein and lycopene which can help protect the skin from sun damage.

  1. Red Grapes 🍇

Red grapes are known for containing resveratrol, a compound found in the skin of red grapes. Resveratrol is considered an antioxidant which can reduce the production of free radicals. Free radicals can damage skin cells and cause aging of the skin, so the less they are produced, the better for your skin.

  1. Sweet Potatoes 🍠

Sweet potatoes contain a type of carotenoid called beta carotene, which again acts as a natural form of sunblock – protecting the skin from the sun. This can prevent sunburn, dry and wrinkled skin.
